Confluences - a multidisciplinary approach to the multiculturalism of Timisoara

The cultural project “Confluences” represents a complex journey through the ethnic layers that enrich the spirit of Timisoara.

The project “Confluences” brings together contemporary dance and folk dance and proposes a meeting between the co-living minorities in Timisoara, first through dance, then through dialogue, costumes and traditions. The artistic team wanted to create an artistic context of awareness of the multi-ethnic richness in Timisoara for the inhabitants of the city, through the meeting between traditional forms of expression (ethnic folklore) approached through current artistic means (contemporary dance). The project “Confluences” consists of several components: The contemporary dance show “Influences”, the costume performance “Presences”, the costume exhibition “Presences”, the video documentary material “Testimonies – the Multiethnic Space in Timisoara”.

The project “Confluences” was co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, in the first financing session, 2023, the thematic area: Performing Arts Dance.

“The <Confluences> project was born out of the desire to know better the geographical space in which I live, the city of Timisoara and to assimilate its history. Each event within the project is a response (or perspective) to the main theme of the project – multiethnicity in the Timisoara area. The <Confluences> project brings together dance, costumes, tradition, history and community, all told through the artists involved in the project’s events. From dance to film, passing through the text in the form of written research, are presented the differences and similarities between the ethnic communities in Timisoara, thus offering the possibility to find their own identity in this space.” Antonia Itineant-performer, initiator of the project “Confluences”
